When Floyd's death sparked nationwide protests in honor of the Black Lives Matter movement, Park Cities residents held local events. Pictured is N.W. Harllee, which was an all-Black elementary school of the "East Oak Cliff" region. The courts had trouble desegregating the school because there were so few white students there, especially as areas served by DISD bled white families. It's also directly across the street from Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center, which was constructed partially as a desegregation measure with the support of Judge Barefoot Sanders.

A stained glass window on the side of St. Paul United Methodist Church features a portrait of Jesus Christ. The church was founded in 1873 and is one of the last visible remnants of the Freedmantown community. The City of Dallas registered the building as a landmark in 1982.
