Dead Days

Dead+Days

According to the teachers, dead days before semester exams are supposed to be helpful and useful to prepare everyone for exams, but I think not. When teachers don’t do anything but let you sit there and just gaze up on the white ceilings for two whole days, the word helpful turns into absent-minded thinking, especially if you finished your exam reviews the week before.

When a teacher does not go over the material that will be on the final exam during dead days, then it those two days turn out to be a big waste of time. What the teachers don’t realize is that most students are not going to study during that class period when the teacher tells them to just study for the whole period. Things start to really take a nosedive when most teachers tell you to sit there and work so you are sitting on the hard plastic chairs contemplating life all day long.

“I think dead days aren’t useful because students don’t study during that time, and we don’t do anything. It would be more helpful if the teachers would actually hold review sessions and help you with the information on the tests. I also think that if teachers would review the information that will be on the exam, the exam grade would be higher,” freshman Brittany Cooksey said.

To be honest, many student don’t know how to study so when a teacher tells them to study on their own, they just sit there or talk with their friends.

“Dead days do not help at all because when the teacher does not have a set lesson plan and just tell us to work on our review, we just go to our friends and basically talk the whole time and don’t do any work which is not good for studying. Also many students like me are pretty shy and may be too shy to go up to the teacher to ask a question that could have been answered if the teacher did a review,” freshman Reagan Van Eaton said.

It is so important that teachers review the material that is learned over the semester because the school has dead days to review and to make sure student know the material and time is wasted if it is not used. If teachers would understand that just telling their students to study the whole time during the dead days is not helpful, and they instead reviewed the material during class, the exam week would be so much better.
