Yet another smartphone company has entered the market. Introducing the Essential PH-1 Phone, a smartphone that features click-on accessories, titanium housing and a phone dock that will be released in the near future.

One of the most important things the company prides itself on is the introduction of clip-on accessories, such as a newly designed 360 degree camera that can be attached to the back of the phone.

“It has 360 degree video capabilities, which I have not seen in any other phone,” freshman Liam Conner said.

These cameras are usually bought separately from phones, but with the PH-1, it can clip onto the two magnetic connectors on the accessory and can connect straight to the phones. Because the 360 degree camera sticks straight to the phone, the PH-1 can save videos that can be viewed as if you were at the scene in that moment. This feature differs from other phone companies, like Apple.

“Apple phones have a reputations for being expensive,” Conner said. “Apple phones do not have, as of yet, 360 video viewing capabilities.”

A new charging pad is also a feature to look out for in the future. Currently, the only way to charge the phone is through a charging wire like other phones, but the company is expected to launch a charging pad that matches the magnetic connectors on the phone. The PH-1 will also have titanium housing that is durable and won’t break during even the worst drops. Other phone companies are known to use aluminum housing, which scratches and dents more easily than titanium.

The phone was originally priced at $699 but the price dropped to $499 a while after it was released.

“The recent price drop means that they want the phone to be a more reasonable price, so that more people will buy it,”  Conner said. “It makes sense, you don’t want your phone too expensive, no one’s gonna buy it then.”

It currently comes in only two colors, Black Moon and Pure White, but new colors like Stellar Grey and Ocean Depths will be available soon.

The Essential company is also releasing a product similar to the Amazon Echo Dot. It will feature a round auto-display that can play music, set timers, dim lights in a house, and display information. These products are used to fill a essential part of someone’s life.
