The main gym was full of laughter and conversation as the members of boys and girls basketball teams signed basketballs and talked to younger kids.  “Meet the Scots” night is a night when younger kids from the elementary schools can come to the high school to meet the basketball players before the basketball game.  All of the kids that came to “Meet the Scots” were from the elementary schools and the middle school.  Hosted on Monday, November 2, the players had a co-ed scrimmage for the kids to watch, and afterwards the younger kids got to talk to the players.  The event promotes the Scots basketball teams.

“It was a really cool experience to be able to interact with the youth,” senior Trenton Bright said.  “It raised awareness for the upcoming girls and boys basketball seasons this year.  I got to sign kids arms, basketballs, shirts and shoes.”

Members of the team greeted the kids at the door on their way in.

“We signed different items for the kids and got to talk to them about basketball,” senior captain Julia Jenevein said.  “There was a raffle going on that promoted the basketball program as we scrimmaged against the guys.”

“I love meet the Scots night,” senior Mikaela Read said.  “I always love seeing how many kids end up coming just because they love basketball and want to eventually be a part of our program.  When all of the little kids came up and asked for me to sign their basketballs, I felt like a celebrity.  This event really shows that the community supports Highland Park basketball.”

“We played a game with the girls varsity in front of all the kids,” senior Jake Taylor said.  “We took pictures and interacted with them.  I learned how cool the little kids think it is to get to meet the varsity players.  Meet the Scots is mainly to get everyone excited for the basketball season and get the kids interested in the basketball program.”
