What’s next for the failing 76ers?
It seems no matter the team they play, the 76ers find a way to lose. This season things just haven’t clicked for the team, letting down their home town of Philadelphia. The Sixers started off the season hot with one win. Yes, that’s right, one win. One win and over 20 loses. Their only win was against the Lakers, another team that has struggled to gain any ground in the win column with this being Kobe Bryant’s last season.
The season couldn’t have been looking any worse for the Sixers until star center, Jahlil Okafor, was suspended for getting into a street fight. Okafor was a first round draft pick for the Sixers due to hopes of bringing more talent to a team that was in need of reshaping. This late night fight in Boston only worsened the situation for the team and further captured attention for the apparent hopelessness of their season.
There has also been talk about the possibility of the Sixers’ general manager, Sam Hinkie, leaving the organization due to the current position of the club. Him “leaving” wouldn’t be by choice, but rather he’d lose his job as the Sixers’ GM. Pinkie has been known to not get along with agents very well, which created speculation before the season started as to how to Sixers would manage to win games. Pinkie is trying to avoid the same fate as past GMs for the Sixers, the last being Ed Stefanski.
The Sixers have a lot of young talent they should be looking forward to. Although they’ve missed out on getting the first overall pick in the past two drafts, the Sixers have hope for a brighter future with the potential they have now. In order to have more successful seasons down the road, the Sixers will need to develop their younger players that have yet to experience the NBA.
