Dallas is known for having a wide variety of food, but it’s always exciting when a new restaurant stands out. Mayfair Garden Express is one of those restaurants.
Mayfair Garden Express is a fusion Indian, Pakistani and Mediterranean restaurant located right next to the John F. Kennedy memorial in downtown Dallas. I first discovered the restaurant on Tiktok on my for-you page.
From the moment you walk in, the space feels modern and welcoming. Bright menu boards hang above, and the restaurant has a clean design. Mayfair Garden Express is inspired by Parisian kebab kiosks, offering a fusion of Mediterranean and South Asian street food flavors, with French style kababs, gyros, biryani and falafel – all made fresh. It’s all the best street food from around the world in one place, that works just as well for a casual lunch as it does for dinner after a long day.
I ordered three items that were all very different from each other, which made it a great way to experience the variety on the menu. The mixed Beef Gyros and Chicken Tikka plate, which cost $18.00, came served over biryani rice and was easily the most filling dish. The beef gyro meat was savory, and the spice level was normal. It came very well seasoned, while the chicken tikka was tender. The biryani rice stood out on its own, with its yellow color and visible spices, and it had lots of variety, tasted great and paired well with the meat. The staff was friendly and I did not wait long for the food to come out.
I also tried the french beef gyros kebab sandwich for $11.99. It came on warm bread filled with beef gyros, fresh salad and red kebab sauce, which tasted spicy. The bread was soft with a slight crisp on the outside. The beef was flavorful and it came with fresh salad. The Kebab sauce pulled the whole sandwich together. For the price, it felt like a really solid and filling option.
For dessert, I ordered Kunafa, a middle eastern dessert, which cost $8.00. It’s made with shredded pastry soaked in syrup. It came out warm, with a slightly crispy top and sweet layers underneath. It wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet, which made it easy to finish. It’s a good dish to split with a friend.
The prices aren’t the cheapest, but they feel fair for the portion sizes and quality. Each plate included enough food for at least two servings, especially the biryani dish, which came with a generous amount of rice and meat. Altogether, my meal came out to about $38 before tax, and there was easily enough food to share and take some home.
Overall, it’s a great addition to the Dallas food scene and a fun place to try something different from the usual fast food spots. It has bold flavors, generous and filling portions, and a modern atmosphere. It’s somewhere I’d definitely go back to, especially for the chicken tikka and biryani rice combination. It’s also only about a 10 to 15 minute drive from Highland Park and located in a really nice and historic area of downtown Dallas, making it an easy and worthwhile trip to try new food.
