This past Tuesday, hard work and dedication were left on McKinney Boyd’s soccer field after the Lady Scots came back to tie the Lady Broncos, 1-1, after a devastating 2-1 loss last season at Highlander Stadium.

The 7:30 p.m. kickoff was delayed due to immense amounts of traffic, so the team was given only about a ten minute rushed warm-up compared to the luxurious 30 minutes they are usually given.

“There was so much traffic because we left right during rush hour, so it took at least an hour to get there so we didn’t get to do a full warm up like normal,” said junior Riley Malone.

Kick-off led to a back and forth game of equally great soccer between the two teams. Sophomore goalkeeper, K.K. Callaghan, made several game changing saves that kept the Lady Scots in the game. With 34 seconds left in the first half, McKinney Boyd scored off of a dribble. Not giving up, the Lady Scots totally dominated the second half of the game by barely giving up possession of the ball and attacking the goal constantly. After sophomore Rachel Wasserman was fouled and a missed penalty kick, she came back for the rebound to score.

“I got fouled inside of the box and all I wanted to do was score, so I just told myself I was going to and I did,” said Wasserman.

With many close chances by the Scots, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The rivalry between these two schools has not only been prevalent in girls soccer but in other sports as well. Most often played in playoff situations, baseball, basketball, sometimes football and soccer all know the intensity that comes with playing one of the largest 6A schools.

Although this game counted as a scrimmage, the tie contributed to the confidence of the Lady Scots team for the upcoming season.
