Keeping the Streak

On October 6, swimmers competed against each other to get the winning title at the annual Blue vs. Gold Meet.

“The swimmers were split into two team with about 25 people on each team. I coached the Blue team and Coach [Jesse] Cole coached the Gold team,” Coach [Hannah] Ferrin explains.

She has coached the Blue team to victory for the past three years, and although Coach Co le was determined to have his Gold team win this year, the Blue team kept up their winning streak. Swimmers had a blast representing their team colors and having friendly competition with their teammates.

Many swimmers swam events they haven’t previously competitively swam before. This was a great way for the coaches see what strokes they swim best at during the high-intensity meets.

“I was on the Blue team for the meet and I swam in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay, and 200 freestyle relay. I placed second in the 200 freestyle and I was really happy because I dropped three seconds. I have never swum 500 freestyle in a meet before, so I was really nervous but it went faster than I though it would. I enjoy relays more than individual events so I was excited for those,” freshman Enderlie Madden said.

Even though the Gold team lost, the swimmers on it had a great time and swam very well in their events. The meet was mainly to practice for future meets and get better times for future meets. Swimmers worked very hard to swim to the best of their abilities and help their teams win.

“The annual Blue/Gold meet is always really exciting. It’s great to keep the tradition alive and swim with each other in a competitive but friendly way. This year I was on Coach Cole’s gold team, so we tried really hard to defeat Coach Ferrin’s reigning Blue team. Although we didn’t, it was still a good meet for everyone,” senior captain Jack Wolfe said.

“This was my first year to be on the Gold team, but despite our best efforts we lost overall. My 200 freestyle relay won first place so that was very exciting. Individually, I swam the 200 free and 100 fly. I also swam the fly portion of the 200-medley relay,” senior captain Grace Jolas said.
