Brad’s Apps #3: Down the Mountain

Down The Mountain is a endless arcade game created by Umbrella Studios. The game begins with you as a cow going down a mountain block by block. Of course, if that was the entire gam it would be boring and pointless, thus there are multiple obstacles. These obstacles range from hot lava to blocks that move directions, creating a much greater challenge than the name indicates.

The mountain is made of blocks. You move down block by block while encountering obstacles. Each obstacle has different results; some may instantly kill you, others will speed you on, or slow you down. The farther down the mountain you get the higher you score.

As you progress in the game you start unlocking different characters that you can play with. Down The Mountain integrates with Game Center on iOS and Play Games on Android making it easy to compare and play with friends.

Of course, all small development studios need a way to monetize and characters are a popular way of going about this. Unfortunately, Umbrella Studios has chosen to use full screen video ads that take a full 30 seconds each and there is no way to bypass this without making a payment of 99 cents. This is especially annoying because you can’t even exit out to the main menu so you have to force-exit the app if you wish to quit watching the advertisement. This is my main complaint with the app.

The game is available on both the Play Store and the App Store for free and is a great way to kill some time if you can put up with the ads or are willing to cough up the 99 cents.
