HP wrestling takes down St. Marks

This past weekend at St. Marks, the Highland Park Boys Wrestling Team went head to head with the St. Marks wrestling team. In the end, HP came out victorious, winning with a five to one lead.

The wrestling team is coached by Coach Marzoula and assistant Coach Williamson, and they are  having a stellar season. The most recent match to occur, occurred this past Saturday, Jan. 19. There were many standout matches during this competition, but it was really the team as a whole that led to the win.

“I would say the team as a whole wrestled really hard and with heart [during] every match, including the younger guys,” Aidan told.

This is heavily contributed to by practicing very intensely since members of the team practice every day. They will work on conditioning and technique so that they are ready when the meets come around.

In the upcoming weeks and months, the UIL tournaments will take place. Two dates, in particular, are important to keep in mind: regions and state. The region-based tournament for Varsity is on Saturday, Feb. 15 9 at the Pflugerville Weiss High School. The state-based UIL tournaments begin on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Berry Center in Houston, Texas.

“And the events we are focused on training for right now is the post season which includes districts, regionals, and state,” Conner said. “As we get closer and closer the intensity will pick up so I am sure we will all be prepared when post season rolls around.”

The season as a whole, along with Conner’s words and as well as the team as a whole, their grit and determination could just be enough for them to leap past the finish line.
