The Division One Lacrosse has started to get rolling after a lackluster start to the year. Led by seasoned seniors Paxton Alexander and Cade Saustad among others, they’re gaining momentum heading into the playoffs. Fan Ryan Rapuzzi said that he felt confident that this team could make a strong push for a state title.

“We got a lot of people back from last year, a solid defense, a solid offense, a good attack, a good all around team,” Rapuzzi said.

The team recently lost to an inspired Torrey Pines team travelling from California. Along with another loss at the beginning of the year to ESD, the team has learned a lot about overcoming losses. However, on the Division 2 team, which is basically junior varsity, things are going fantastic. Team member Andrew Bonnet he said that he’s proud of the hard work they’ve done to become solid.

“I think we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, so it helps us on the field a lot,” Bonnet said.

It all goes back to the fundamentals though.

“I think continuing to listen to our coaches and doing what we know how to do,” Bonnet said.

Division One also knows how they can be most successful. They’ve forged an identity through those tight losses to gain a perspective on their style of attack.

“Our strength is when we get on a roll, we’re really, really hard to stop, and we have really good team chemistry now that the season has started to kick up,” Hames said. “I think one of our bigger strengths is having a solid defense, and also have a solid offense, more of a solid offense than some teams.”

“We have plenty of guys who are skilled and talented  in order to divy them up on midfield lines and have people running through, and have plenty of subs so people don’t get tired and we can be firing on all cylinders.”

Furthermore, with such talent the team keeps the mindset that they need to keep the good plays going. Overall, tightening up the little things and making sure to stay aggressive are the real keys to success.

“We need to keep our consistency. I think that’s going to be one of the most important things for us because when we’re consistently running our offense right, getting on a good offense groove, not allowing bad goals or stupid mistakes I think we’re really tough to beat,” Hames said.
