Coffee Cake Review
A great family recipe that is easy to make and even better to enjoy
Every morning is typical. Wake up. Get dressed. Brush teeth. Go to school. Only to wake up the next morning and start the whole process over again. Wouldn’t it be something if the schedule was shaken up?
One way to mix up your morning is by trying something new at the breakfast table. Coffee cake. To anyone who doesn’t drink coffee in the morning; do not be alarmed, because there’s no coffee involved. It is just a delicious pastry that can be enjoyed with virtually anything.
One of my favorite coffee cake recipes has been passed down through my family for a very, very long time. My grandmother is the main person to make it. For years now I have gone over to her house for breakfast, and she will have a coffee cake sitting on the kitchen counter ready to go. For all the coffee drinkers out there, coffee and coffee cake can definitely that go together for a morning of socializing. It is fairly easy to make and, once done, is definitely worth the effort. Here is a list of ingredients that you will need to make it:
1 cup Flour
½ cup Sugar
3 t. Baking powder
½ t. Salt
½ t. Cinnamon
4 T. Butter
1 Egg
½ cup Milk
The first step in this process is to mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. You will want to use either an electric mixer or a whisk. Make sure not to stir it too long though, because that would cause the coffee cake to come out hard and not very good. Once you finish this step, you will want to add the butter, egg and milk. Note that the butter should be melted in the microwave before it is added.
Put this mix into a pan of your desired shape and size. Keep in mind that if the pan is very long one way, the batter will be spread very thin and the cake will burn when you cook it. Then you will have to start all over. The final step goes as following. Mix together ¼ cup of sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this over the top of the cake and then put the whole thing in the oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Once finished allow to cool on a cooling rack and then you can enjoy. Your mornings will be forever changed, and definitely for the better!
