On Sunday, August 30, I took a ten minute, easy drive straight down Preston to 2720 Oak Lawn Ave, the site of Oak Lawn Coffee. Most of the tables and couches were taken by the time I walked in at around 1:30, proving its popularity. The coffee is also divine. Whilst making a decision of which beverage to get, one man suggested the iced coffee, saying it “is some of the best iced coffee around”. This gave me high expectations, which were certainly fulfilled.
I ordered a caramel latte, and I was not disappointed. It was served in a white, ceramic cup, and the foam was in an amazing design. The flavor was superb, since it had that real coffee taste with a hint of sweetness. I would recommend this to anyone who is in to lattes. The coffee is also local, making it all the more authentic.
An aspect of this coffee shop I like is that it is community focused. Groups tend to meet there for a drink and then go across the street to a place called The Upper Room, to work on community events. The workers also knew each other well before having a job at Oak Lawn coffee, so they are all welcoming and ready to be at your service. This all adds to the coffee shop vibe, because when you go there even once, you feel like a friend. There is even a sign conveniently placed above cozy couches that says “welcome home”. Other decor includes designs made out of wood scraps, and modern objects placed on display shelves. It is also a cozy place since it is small, but the setup makes it feel bigger. Most people there were students working on their laptops and in their notebooks, so it is the perfect spot to study, but on weekdays, it closes at 7, so you can’t stay too late. Oak Lawn Coffee is also a good place to gather with friends to catch up on what is happening in life.
