Hot Glue Art
If you are looking for a fun, creative and new type of art to try out, look no further. Hot glue art is simple and fairly easy to do, and, best of all, requires little to no art experience. The tools needed are simple too, just follow the below list:
- A hot glue gun
- Several sheets of paper and a pencil
- Several sheets of wax paper or something to cover the table
- Watercolors to paint your design
Step One: Use one sheet of your paper and begin drawing something on it. The drawing can be anything you want– a graphic design, a portrait, an inanimate object, the list goes on. Since I am not the best of artists, I decided to go with two different but simple designs: one with a leaf and one of a brick wall. After sketching the drawings out, I covered my workspace with the wax paper so as not to get any of the glue on the area.
Step Two: Plug in your hot glue gun. You should do this after you sketch your designs because if you fire it up too early, then the glue will start coming out of the gun and covering part of the surface. The glue gun in particular that I used for this has a silicone surface that you can put the glue gun on and wait for it to warm up without worrying about the glue going everywhere. If your glue gun does not have a surface like that, I would recommend taking two or three sheets of paper and folding them together into halves, using them as a “shield” substitute.
Step Three: Once your glue gun has warmed up completely, you can officially begin. Place your paper on top of the wax paper and pick up the glue gun. Slowly but carefully, follow the lines you have drawn on the page with the glue. Be aware that the glue might become very stringy across the page. This is totally okay, and you can fix it later. Another thing to be aware of is going off the page. If you go too far off the paper, the paper might get stuck to the wax. If this happens, immediately move the paper before the glue dries and hardens.
Step Four: When you have finished outlining the picture, step back and wait for the glue to dry and harden. This will take little to no time, so do not worry about getting bored with waiting. Once it is done drying, pull out your paints. The idea is to paint inside the glue to highlight the design on the page. It will accentuate the hot glue and make for a very creative and artsy looking picture. When you finish painting, let it dry completely. Enjoy your new art!
