In the downtown Dallas area, there is a place by the Dallas Museum of Art with a gorgeous park and a series of food trucks parked across from the museum.

The space, variety of food trucks as well as slightly overpriced ice cream makes this sunny day in the park such a pleasant experience .

The museum building has beautiful architecture and many places to sit and write, talk, or just enjoy the atmosphere. During my visit, I saw two of the main exhibits – the Keir Collection of Islamic Art and the American Art collection. The American art collection was full of impressionist and modern art from the 20th century, which included lots of pastel colors and a very dreamy aesthetic. The Keir Collection of Islamic art was full of much older paintings and sculptors and was very informative. General admission to the museum is free while special exhibits cost extra.

For food, I ordered two chicken tacos for four dollars from Abe’s Flavor Flave, a Mexican food truck. They were pretty decent, however they were covered in cilantro, which I don’t care for. Still, I enjoyed them. The chicken was well seasoned with a lot of lemon juice but also very salty. After eating the tacos,  I tried ice cream from another truck, Cool Haus, which serves ice cream sandwiches with homemade ice cream and cookies. A problem I had with the ice cream is that is seems very overpriced. I got a single scoop of chocolate chunk sea salt ice cream for about four dollars. The ice cream sandwiches were priced around eight dollars. The ice cream itself was really good and the sea salt was well balanced with the chocolate.

My overall experience at the Dallas art museum was very pleasant. It’s a great place to spend a free afternoon. Fun place to go with kids and the park outside is a great place to take dogs.
