Chipotle is changing management

On Wednesday Nov. 29 founder and chief executive officer of Chipotle Mexican Grill, Steve Ells, announced that he will step down from chief executive office as soon as they find  someone that can properly take his place. After Ells steps down from his office he will still be a part of Chipotle, he will become the new executive chairman.

The committee that is looking for the new chief executive officer consists of directors Robin Hickenlooper, Ali Namvar and Ells. They will also receive assistance from the recruitment firm Spencer Stuart.

Ells founded Chipotle in 1993, and Ells has shared the position of co- chief executive officer from 2009 to 2016 with Monty Moran.

Chipotle’s shares have fallen more than 24 percent this year alone, and in the most recent quarter Chipotle has missed their expected goal, which has sent shares down hill. On Tuesday the stock closed under $286. The stocks went up by nearly five percent in early trading on Wednesday after Ells announced the news search for a new chief executive officer.

Chipotle  has been struggling for the past few years due to an E.coli outbreak that affected multiple restaurants in several states back in 2015. Even though the CDC declared the outbreak to be over in February 2016, business has been slow to come back.

The restaurant has recently dealt with health scares at some of its restaurants, including a norovirus outbreak in Virginia and rodent sightings at a Dallas location.
