Larry Nassar, an osteopathic physician that formerly served as the USA Gymnastics National Team Doctor, faces a lifetime sentence in jail for sexual assault and child pornography charges. He has already been sentenced 60 years in prison for child pornography allegations, and has plead guilty to ten accounts of sexual assault. Over 150 women have accused him of sexual abuse including Olympic medalists Simone Biles, Mckayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas.

“I am not afraid to tell my story anymore,” Biles tweeted last week. “I too am one of the many survivors that was sexually abused by Larry Nassar. Please believe me when I say that it was a lot harder to first speak those words out loud than it is now to put them on paper.”

“There are many reasons I have been reluctant to share my story, but I know now it is not my fault.”

Not only did these women go on to win Olympic golds and world championships, they did this under the emotional stress and anxiety caused by the assaults. They have become symbols of power and bravery to the world, encouraging people to raise their voices.

Some of the women were only children when Nassar took advantage of them. Kyle Stephens, who was abused for six years, had a powerful testimony that quickly gained the attention of thousands of people. Nassar was very close friends and also neighbors with her family. She was one of many women who were silenced for decades.

“And now, as the only non medical victim to come forward, I testify to let the world know that you are a repulsive liar,” Stephens said at Nassar’s sentencing on January 16.

Her story inspired many victims to come forward, as the public began to show her love and support across social media. After years and years of waiting, justice is finally coming for Stephens as well as the rest of the 150 victims. Stephens asked for a minimum of 40 years and a maximum of 125.

“Perhaps you have figured it out by now,” Stephens said, addressing Nassar. “But little girls don’t stay little forever. They turn into strong women that return to destroy your world.”
