Washing, drying and country style, oh my!

The Sims 4: Laundry Day Stuff Pack

The life simulation game, The Sims 4, released their newest stuff pack, Laundry Day Stuff, on Jan. 16, 2018.This stuff pack is noteworthy because the creators of the game took the simmers through the process of making a pack. The simmers voted on nearly every single content in the new pack.

The project for Laundry Day started April 4, 2017, when SimGuru Graham, posted an announcement on the official EA website. The announcement explained that the developers would allow simmers to help develop the theme, the style, the main gameplay feature, the title and the icon of the pack through six different surveys held from April 4 to Sept. 15.

The first survey, which was first opened on April 4, allowed simmers to pick from five different options, each with a general description of the theme and possible areas of focus. From ‘Arcade Stuff,’ ‘Dangerous Stuff,’ ‘Starter Home Stuff,’ ‘Wedding Stuff’ and ‘Eco Living Stuff’ – which won, largely because of the potential area of focus including laundry, which was a wanted addition since it was first added in The Sims 3: Ambitions expansion pack.

The next survey, which opened on April 10, 2017, allowed simmers to pick between two art styles for the new pack. The options given included a room with proposed objects along with a male and female outfit that would fit the theme. ‘Style A’ was more modern while ‘Style B’ was rustic. ‘Style B’ ended up winning.

One the art style was created, another survey was opened May 18, 2017, which allowed simmers to narrow down 68 objects and create-a-sim concepts to 29. The fourth survey, opened June 23, allowed simmers to vote on the main feature of the pack. Out of ideas like canning and living off-grid, laundry won.

Despite the simmers having so much control over the pack, some are still displeased with the choices of the majority. They see the pack as boring compared to the other ideas of having the ability to live off-grid, can food or having a pack that had a different initial theme all together. Other simmers, however, disagree. They like the pack and the addition of even more realism to the game.

The pack itself was released with 49, rustic-looking additions as well as three hairstyles, nine tops, three bottoms, two full-outfits, one accessory and two shoes to dress the sims in. The main attraction, of course, is the laundry feature.

Like in The Sims 3: Ambitions, simmers can pick from a washer and a dryer set or a washer and a cloth-line set. This is added to with a washtub, allowing simmers to not have to use either electronic substitute. The pack also comes with various styles of hampers to hold the clothes.

In addition to the actual chore of laundry, the sims themselves interact with the clothes. They can leave piles of clothes lying around until flies swarm. Instead of actually drying them, sims can also leave a pile of wet clothes to air-dry. Or, if a sim wants a neat house, they can put the clothes away once they are clean.

In The Sims 4: Laundry Day Stuff, simmers get rustic-themed objects that go well with the style of previous packs, especially the most recent expansion pack, Cats and Dogs. It is currently sold digitally for $9.99.
