Camila’s Comeback

Former Fifth Harmony Singer Goes Solo

Camila Cabello, also known as Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao, released her new album Camila on January 12, which is her first album as a solo artist. The album consists of 10 songs including a regular recorded version and a radio edit of her popular song “Never Be The Same.” The song was uploaded on YouTube on December 29 of last year and has had over three million views since then.

Cabello was born in Cuba and moved to Miami, Florida when she was five years old. She started her career at just 15 years old, when she auditioned for the competitive singing show The X Factor in 2012. She auditioned to the song “Respect” by Aretha Franklin, but the audition was not aired due to rights for the song. Cabello made it through the first round of The X Factor and, during the “bootcamp” section of the competition, was pulled aside along with Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Lauren Jauregui and Dinah Jane to form the girls’ singing group Fifth Harmony. After finishing in third place on the show they signed a joint deal with Syco Music, owned by Simon Cowell, and Epic Records.

Fifth Harmony was a success and released their first EP Better Together in 2013. Later, they released their studio albums Reflection in 2015 and 7/27 in 2016.

In November of 2015, Cabello collaborated with Canadian singer Shawn Mendes in the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The single charted at number 20 in the U.S. and 18 in Canada and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In October of 2016, American rapper Machine Gun Kelly released a joint single with Cabello called “Bad Things,” which reached a peak of number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Time included her on “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2016” list.

In December of 2016, Cabello confessed that she was leaving Fifth Harmony to pursuit a solo career. Since then, Cabello has been working hard; her new album shows the product of her efforts.
