Three Dollar Mandolin

Eli’sha Davies, a nine-year-old boy from the state of Tennessee, was recently rewarded for a good deed. After donating three dollars to President Donald Trump, this big-hearted kid was given a mandolin by a charitable organization, The Young Musicians Education Foundation Inc.

The mandolin is a string instrument in the lute family and is most often played with a pick. Unlike many other string instruments, the mandolin typically has four pairs of strings, although other versions of the instrument have five or even six pairs of strings.

After learning that Trump would only accept one dollar per year as pay for his duties, Davies sent 3 dollars, a letter and a picture to the President to help him financially. Davies was worried for the President and wondered how Trump would pay his bills on only one dollar per year. The money that Davies sent was supposed to go to buying a mandolin, an instrument that he had been saving up for, for quite a while.

Davies mother, in a statement to WGRZ, said that Davies had difficulty saving up for the instrument because he kept finding people who he believed needed the money more than he did.

Davies had all but forgotten about the letter, but nine months later a large envelope addressed to Davies arrived. It turns out that Trump is quite well-off and doesn’t need Davies’ money. Trump sent back Davies’ money and included a thank you note. In the note, Trump encouraged Davies to find ways in his community to help, and that the three dollars would be better donated to those local causes instead of being given to a millionaire.

After John Wildeman, the president of The Young Musicians Education Foundation Inc., heard about Davies’ small donation, he decided that he wanted to reward the boy’s charitable action by giving him the mandolin that he had been saving up for. Guitar Center, a well-known music store with locations around the country, also heard about Davies’ good deed and gave donations to Davies in the form of the picks, strings, a tuner, and a chord chart that would be helpful with his new mandolin. While Davies began to practice the mandolin in church, these recent gifts will give him the ability to practice at home as well.

So, while a three-dollar donation may not seem like much to most people, it has certainly made an enormous difference to one patriotic boy from Tennessee, Eli’sha Davies.
