US Air Force placing nuclear bombers on 24 hr notice

Students in America have been taught about the Cold War; a war fought through proxy wars and propaganda. The Cold War, which was from 1947-1991, is known as a time of tension between Russia and America, not only because of the separate political stances of communism versus democracy, but also because of the want from both world powers to build the biggest and the best nuclear weapons

Those tensions, while nearly 70 years old, still exist today. While America’s relationship with Russia has vastly improved, there are still disagreements between the two countries, such as the response to North Korea and its threats.

North Korea has dominated the news world with its promises of death and destruction to the US and the rest of the world via their ballistic missiles or a hydrogen bomb. They claim that they have weapons that can strike major cities in the US and have also flown two missiles, the latest in late August of 2017, over the neighboring country of Japan.

America, and the rest of the world, have responded to the threats with various sanctions through the United Nations (UN) that have capped North Korea’s exporting ability and have banned textile exports. These sanctions have been contested by both China and Russia.

However, America has also responded by announcing that preparations of placing nuclear bomber planes on a 24-hour alert were underway. This type of alert has not been in place since the end of the Cold War in 1991, and would require that planes with nuclear bombs would be parked at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana and would be able to fly in a day’s notice.

The order for this alert has not been given out, yet. But, Barksdale Air Force Base begun preparing for the possibility that the order, so that the planes would be able to be placed there and be able to fulfill whatever need.
