Google recently released the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on October 19, 2017, including new features and a new camera. Despite its new features, the Pixel 2 still receive criticism on it screen quality.

When the Google’s first pixel phone was released, it was met with mixed feelings from customers of other companies. “I think the Apple and Verizon are very big competitors, and Google’s a leading competitor but it has a really big competition ahead,” said Hollis Vaughan, a ninth grader.

One of the features the pixel prides itself on it is it’s top-of-the-line camera. The pixel 2 features a camera that takes some of the highest quality photos like the phone promises from the name “Pixel”. Unlike the iPhone pluses or the iPhone X, which both use double cameras, the Pixel 2 features only a single camera that’s still guaranteed to still take the highest quality photos possible. A high quality phone camera is appreciated by customers, whether for photography or just everyday life. “It’s important to me because I take photos for my social media on my phone, and it’s just a good way to keep memories on your phone, said Vaughan.

The camera also takes photos in mode similar to the iPhones. The features modes like HDR plus, Motion, and portrait mode. Popular brand Moment also sells cases that support the use of add on lenses for the phone to increase the quality of the photos it takes. The company provides similar lenses for the iPhone as well.

The Pixel 2 XL has received high criticism for its screen. The phone reportedly experience is something called “Burn-in” and various muted color issues. Burn-in is the permanent discoloration of a screen, so that an image may remain on the screen at all times. In the case of the Pixel 2 XL, the screen experiences burn-in in the small navigational buttons at the bottom of the phone. “I think it will make people less interested in the phone, because it is not as good of quality as other competitors that are not having problems, said Vaughan, “People know that is better to stay safe then sorry.” These reports of screen burn-in may lead to a file lawsuit against Google.

The muted colors, which appear dull, were apparently a “design choice“ from Google, but is clearly noticeable compared to other electronic devices.

Despite the high criticism to the pixel 2 XL’s screen, the phone is still widely popular among those who enjoy taking photos. The phone’s high quality camera makes up for its dull colors and screen issues.
