Tensions Grow Uncontrollably

Tensions+Grow+Uncontrollably

Tensions between North Korea and the U.S. are growing at an alarming rate. The relationship between the two countries is undoubtedly becoming worse. As the two leaders of these countries struggle to gain leverage on the other, their citizens suffer. Especially in North Korea, where people are forced to flee to China and other neighbouring countries in an attempt to save their lives.

While some citizens of the U.S. hope to get rid of the tensions for good others wish the tense rhetoric would result in military action against Kim Jong Un.

“If I think about it politically, for future freedom, then I’m hoping North Korea will shoot a missile to somewhere and then the US or the South Korean government will take action,” Grace Jo, a North Korean defector living in Maryland, told CNN.

Jo, a 26 year old immigrant, lost her father and four siblings in an attempt to flee North Korea during the height of the famine years.

“The North Korean regime should not exist,” Jo said to a CNN reporter. “For many years, nothing has been accomplished politically. We have to find a way to shut down the leader and the military power.”

Jo doesn’t want innocent people hurt but she feels military action is necessary. The harsh words coming from Trump’s administration give her hope.

“I think Kim Jong Un is a young child,” Young Sik Kim told CNN via an interpreter in a conference call. “He doesn’t know what he’s doing.”

Kim is also an immigrant from North Korea who agrees that the U.S should got to war with North Korea. Kim grew up during the time of Kim II Sung, Kim Jong Un’s grandfather. Kim believed that Kim II Sung looked out for his citizens and cared for them, while his grandson only cares about nuclear weapons. Kim knows the huge toll war will have on the land and people but he has determined that North Korea must be “wiped out and reconstructed.”
