Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Beauty and the Beast is a drama fantasy movie that came out on March 17, 2017. I feel like everyone knows what Beauty and the Beast is about, but if not, I will go over it again. Belle is a young woman who is exceptionally beautiful and smart. When the Beast holds her father as a prisoner, she gets the Beast to let her switch with her father and live in the castle as his prisoner. She befriends the peculiar staff of the castle and soon enough, friends the Beast too.
This version of Beauty and the Beast is exceptionally well done. The costumes, the set design, the singing, the acting, the casting and so much more.
My favorite thing about Beauty and the Beast is how true they stayed to the original story. In the live action Cinderella, they changed so much of the plot, and I think the story got lost in how much they changed. They made it more about the stepmother than they made it about Cinderella herself.
That is very different from Beauty and the Beast. In Beauty and the Beast, they did not change the plot at all. They enhanced certain aspects of it including how Belle could help her father, and having LeFou play a gay role. These slight changes just pointed out the relationships between how close Belle is with her father and Lefou to Gaston.
The choice to make LeFou gay was a really brave move for Disney. They way they included it into the movie was very clever. It is only obvious a few times like when you see Lefou at the end dancing with another boy and some points it is clear that he was in love with Gaston.
The costume design in this movie is so beautiful. There is something about this time period that is so interesting to me and I think they captured the clothes from the original animated Beauty and the Beast perfectly.
The casting for Beauty and the Beast was amazing. Emma Watson has a beautiful singing voice, and she is the perfect choice for Belle. I think this was the best choice that they made for the whole movie.
Another thing that I loved about Beauty and the Beast was the cinematography. Everything is cheery and bright when it should be, and sad and gloomy when it should be. The camera work on this movie was so well done.
All in all, if you have not seen Beauty and the Beast yet, you should definitely go. I would recommend this movie to any age and any gender. I loved it so much; it made me laugh and it made me cry.
