Throughout the 2016 presidential race, every American heard about how President Donald Trump would make America great again.  Now, he is putting his plans into action.

On January 27, President Trump issued an executive order that established a suspension on entry into the United States for visitors from seven predominantly Muslim countries for at least 90 days.  The reason given for the suspension was that the time was necessary in order to put vetting standards in place so that the government could adequately review each person coming to the United States from these countries. This is to make sure that he or she is not a terrorist threat.  The seven countries–Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen were chosen because of they have been identified as the most dangerous countries in the world for harboring terrorists.  The order also suspended all refugees from entering the United States for a period of four months.

The administration did not give any advance warning that they were going to put this travel ban into place, and as a result a little over 100 travelers were detained at airports right after the order was announced.  Opponents of President Trump organized protests against this policy, causing increased tensions between the President and the Democrats.  However, some Republicans also announced that they were opposed to this policy.

Soon after the order was announced, a federal judge in Seattle blocked this action and prohibited it from being enforced nationwide.  The Trump administration criticized this decision and claimed that it put the country in peril.  

Immediately after the ruling travelers who had been barred from entering the U.S. under the order began to arrive in the country.  The government appealed the decision to a higher court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and that court is expected to rule on this soon.  Either side could appeal the decision of the appeals court to the United States Supreme Court.  However, since there are currently four conservative justices and four liberal justices on the Supreme Court, it is very possible that the decision on this order would be deadlocked.  This makes the Ninth Circuit’s decision all that much more important–because it is likely to be the final decision in the case.

Regardless of whether you agree with the so-called travel ban or not, it is clear that President Trump intends to be a man of action and that he expects to keep the promises that he made during his presidential campaign.
