Exciting news for ‘U2-bers’

In early January U2 announced that they are touring throughout the United States and Europe this summer. U2 fans were ecstatic and immediately were checking for when the ticket sales and pre sale began. Tickets went on sale on Jan. 16 in Europe and on Jan. 17 in the United States. Very few shows are not sold out at this point.

U2 is one of the most popular Irish rock and roll bands in the world. The band formed in 1976 after Larry Mullen Jr. posted a note on his high school bulletin board seeking musicians for a new band. The group consists of Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. Bono sings lead vocals and plays the guitar. The Edge plays the guitar and keyboard and sings backup vocals. Clayton plays the bass guitar and Mullen Jr. plays the drums and percussion.

The U2 men have been performing together since their high school years, and now are in their fifties. In 1976 the band had two more members, who both played the guitar. Each member of the current band still lives in the Dublin area, where they grew up and first formed the band.

U2’s fifth album, The Joshua Tree, is what their 2017 tour is inspired after. The Joshua Tree was the album that made U2 international superstars and was their greatest commercial and critical success. This year is the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree.

The tour kicks off in Vancouver on May 12 and ends the U.S. leg of the tour in Cleveland on July 1. The band then moves into London on July 8 and ends the Europe leg of the tour in Brussels on Aug. 1. Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and One Republic are all opening for U2 at different destinations on the American tour and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are opening at every destination on the Europe tour.

This is the first time that U2 has toured since the Innocence + Experience Tour in 2015. The Joshua Tree is U2’s 16th tour, but it is the first time that the band is headlining in an American festival. On June 8-11, U2 will be going to the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.

The tour will be coming to Dallas on Friday, May 26 at AT&T Stadium. U2 hasn’t come to Dallas since the Elevation tour in 2001, so the tickets are selling fast for an opportunity to see them again here.
