Inside Aleppo
Rebel controlled Aleppo is facing many difficulties currently as Assad’s forces along with his allies who have now surrounded this historical town. Whilst it is undetermined who’s hands the city shall fall to in the coming month(s), most residents that have remained in hope that they will not be ran out of their homes towards the end of this devastating conflict.
The residents of Aleppo seem almost oblivious to the horrors that they must face everyday because they’ve become so familiar to it. All they want is to continue their daily lives without the threat of bombardment from Russian aircrafts, the threat snipers from opposing sides and the looming threat of outside forces such as ISIS.
Though strangely in the mist of all this chaos you can find lively markets where vendors are selling their produce, which has regrettably doubled in price in a weeks time due to shortages in supply. Children are still sent off to school, though are sometimes placed in makeshift underground classrooms because of the threat of unpredictable bombing.
Currently Voluntary Civil Defense workers are racing from building to building that has been brought to rumble in attempt to try to save those trapped underneath, though mostly only to retrieve the deceased.
For those trying to escape, about a recorded 40,000 people have already left rebel held Aleppo, and it seems there will be more to come, though not as much as it may seem with many remaining residents in Aleppo having nowhere to turn. With the Turkish border closed, some would rather prefer to stay home than face off against the naturally harsh elements.
The fate of the city is indecisive, given its historical value to Syria, though what must more importantly come to mind is the fate of those that choose to remain within it.
