On Monday February, 15 I drove to Top Pot Doughnuts and Coffee. I was weary of ordering coffee from a shop I assumed was mainly doughnuts with subpar coffee, but I was completely wrong. As it is located on Hillcrest right outside of University Park by Tiff’s Treats, it is a quick drive to the shop. Parking is limited, but there is a parking lot underground if you are not lucky enough to find a spot in the front.

Upon walking in, I was surprised about the decor. I was expecting the shop to be more like a grungy diner, but instead, it is an open space that is welcoming and clean. To the left is a bookshelf filled with worn books that look intellectual. Underneath is another shelf connected to the ground full of mugs, shirts, caps, and other various items available for purchase. To the right is a covered patio, which is perfect for warm days.

I ordered a caramel latte, and although it took awhile for the single person working in the shop to make it, I enjoyed it. Partly because I was exhausted that day and needed energy, and partly because it exceeded my prior expectations. Top Pot offers a wide variety of coffee drinks, so the odds of you finding one that you like is high. As well as serving coffee, they also have doughnuts. They are all cake doughnuts, and although I did not buy any, I already want to take a trip back to try them.

I recommend Top Pot for your coffee and cake doughnut needs. You, too, might be pleasantly surprised by this shop.
