Dallas ‘Stay-‘cations

What to do when you have nothing to do

Spring break is revered among most high school students as a small taste of summer, with many students jetting off to exotic destinations like Mexico and the Bahamas. However, don’t be bummed if you aren’t among the many purchasing new bathing suits and charging up the GoPros; Dallas has plenty of events to entertain you this March.

If you haven’t already been to the Truckyard on Lower Greenville, it’s a must in good weather. With the casual, almost junk-yard feel, live performers on the weekends and the different assortment of food trucks every day, it is sure to be a memorable night with friends. Walk over to Steel City Pops after to grab a sweet, light treat that will give you nostalgia from childhood summers.

If you’re looking to maintain a ‘bikini body’ for summer, and want to avoid the brisket grilled-cheese from the Truckyard, HG Spply Co. has you covered. With a spectacular rooftop patio and amazingly fresh food, such as the Tex Mex bowl and their watermelon lemonade, HG is the trendy spot your gluten-free/vegan friends will love.

Dallas is known for its museums and art galleries, so why not take advantage of your city and view renowned collections at the “Dallas Arts District Spring Break Kickoff.” The Dallas Metropolitan Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and AT&T Performing Arts Center are teaming up at Klyde Warren for the ultimate block party. Food trucks, live music and art pieces will all consolidate at this event on March 7th.

For those crafty people out there, The Open Studio Painting Workshop at Ardor Studio is the perfect chance to hone your creative genius, while having all supplies available to you. The concept is simple; allow painters of all levels to foster artistry and skills, without directions for two hours. Enjoy this opportunity through March 31, from 3-7 PM every day, and use promo code “VD1227” when you sign up online at www.ardorstudio.com.

Other events:

Six Flags Over Texas is reopening its gates to the public March 5th, perfect for you to get a group together for a day of roller coasters and junk food.

If you can’t go snorkeling or scuba diving this spring break, go to the Dallas World Aquarium or the Dallas Zoo to see exotic animals.

Head to the Galaxy Drive-In in Ennis, Texas for a movie under the stars and supposedly great concessions that are priced relatively cheap.

Go watch a FC Dallas soccer game at Toyota Stadium, on March 6th they’re playing the Philadelphia Union.

If you’re looking to go to a concert, Fetty Wap will be performing at the House of Blues on March 8th; Future will be at Southside Ballroom on March 11th; and if you’re into country, Billy Currington will be at Billy Bob’s on March 11th.
