Farewell to an NBA legend
Playing 20 seasons of NBA basketball, winning five championships, four MVP awards, and making countless clutch shots, Kobe Bryant has had an amazing career that will have another great moment during the 2016 All Star Game. Bryant attained 1,891,614 votes from fans, which led the league in votes. This will be his 18th All Star Game appearance and it will occur in Toronto, which is a special place for Bryant considering he dropped 81 points against the Raptors in 2006.
He will play amongst the game’s greats as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Dwayne Wade, and others will be there to send Bryant off with his last All Star Game hoorah.
Despite Bryant having a sub par season averaging only 15.8 points a game (as of 1/24) where he usually averages in the upper 20s. Bryant’s game has certainly deteriorated with age and injuries over the year, but fans have seen glimpses of the old Kobe with his fade-away jump shot and even a few monstrous dunks. His team, the Lakers are also terrible as they sit dead last in the Western Conference. Although his game and team have not been performing as he would like, he is showing more joyful emotion than the media has ever seen. Smiling after a loss or longer more friendly interview with the media are just a couple of signs that show Bryant’s different light-hearted attitude than his usual fierce competitive one.
He also decided not to participate in the Olympics this summer to give other players the chance to play in the special event. Bryant has participated in the last two Olympics winning gold in each.
An incredible career spanning three decades will come to a close at the end of this season and fans will show their appreciation at the All Star Game. Any fan of the NBA will miss watching one of the greatest players to ever play in the NBA and his fierce, competitive attitude can not be replaced. The NBA and the world will never forget the name Kobe Bryant and the greatness we all got to watch.
