10 Below (NYC)

This past weekend, I was in New York City with the Lads and Lassies. Out of the many sites we visited and restaurants we ate at, my favorite place was 10 Below. It is located in Chinatown in a hard to find location. 10 Below is an ice cream shop where the ice cream is rolled instead of scooped, therefore making it unique.

The line is long and service is somewhat slow since it takes more time and effort to artfully create the bowl of ice cream. After waiting about ten minutes, I ordered the “i love you a latte” with sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce. Once they reach your order, you get to step up to the glass and watch them smooth out the ice cream on a frozen plate and roll it up. The toppings are added later at a different station to keep the line moving.

Although it was about 30 degrees outside, the ice cream was amazing and worth every dollar. It was dense and packed full of flavor. The texture was creamy and smooth, and it was sweet.

The decor of the shop is fairly modern. The walls are gray and the tables and chairs are black and gray. On one wall, there is a chalkboard, which at the time, was decorated for the holiday season. The staff was very nice too. Although they had to make sure people were not lingering too long, they kept a smile on their faces.

The next time you visit New York City, I suggest finding 10 Below. It is the perfect unique treat for a unique city.
