Christmas in New York City

New York is known as “the city that never sleeps,” and there is no exception during Christmas time. The whole city is up and running with decorations, activities and so much more.

From high-end retail to venders on the street, New York has endless shopping opportunities. Soho, Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, Upper East Side, Park Avenue, whatever you are looking for, they have it covered.

“I love to shop in New York City. Madison Avenue has the coolest stores. I also love to go to the Plaza Hotel for tea. They have the best pastries,” freshman MC Leath said. “In the Christmas time, I love to go look in the windows of stores because they all decorate their windows and kind of compete for who is the best. Saks on Fifth Avenue has always had my favorite windows because they do a light show at night on the outside walls of the building.”

There are tons of activities to do while in NYC. You could go ice-skating at Rockefeller Center, see the Rockettes perform at Radio City Music Hall, visit Ground Zero, or just walk around, grab a bag of Nuts4Nuts, and take in the sites.

“I like to go to Top of the Rock [Rockefeller Center] and see the city from above. Also, you can’t forget to walk through Central Park, their zoo is super fun,” Leath said.

“I love going to New York City in the winter because the entire city is decorated with Christmas lights and all of the trees are put up,” freshman Emily Wright said. “Walking around when the weather is cold is also really nice.”

New York has delicious food as well. There are so many different places to eat. Big Daddy’s has really good hamburgers and frozen lemonade. Don Giovani has amazing pizza as well.

“Last weekend when I went to New York, I went to this little Italian restaurant called Michael’s that had the best pizza. Also, Serendipity has frozen hot chocolate that is really good,” Leath said.

Of all the large cities in the world, New York has to be one of the most iconic during the Christmas time.
