The Bucks stop here: Golden State’s winning streak ends
The Golden State Warriors are the most talked about team in the NBA right now due to their championship season last year and their twenty-four straight win streak to start this season. Overall, the team has an amazing balance with both Steph Curry and Klay Thompson’s sharp shooting that carries the team through every game. But while on a seven game road trip they faced the formidable Milwaukee Bucks who are known for having the best defense in the league which helped them end their 25-0 dream.
Many assumed that the Warriors would lose to the Bucks because of they had played games on three consecutive before nights and Thompson had been injured two games earlier. Thompson and Curry usually bear the weight of the team, but it was all on Curry in game twenty-four. While watching the game against the Celtics, fans could see that Golden State, even though they won, was really struggling without Thompson on the court. The author knew that although Thompson was going to play against the Bucks in game twenty-five of the season, the Warriors would still struggle because Thompson would not be as involved as he usually is.
The Warriors came close to breaking the Los Angeles Lakers’ record winning streak of thirty-three games during the 1971-72 season, which was also ended by the Milwaukee Bucks. It would have been nice to see the GSW go 25-0 because they would’ve beaten another winning streak, but we can look at their loss as kind of restoring some sense of normalcy. According to intermittent head coach Luke Walton, the reason the Warriors haven’t doing as good lately is because all they’ve been doing is winning, but not getting better. This sounds reasonable because winning one game and then going to play a different team is very different from winning a seven-game series during which your opponent can make adjustments on offense and defense. The Golden State Warriors have had a terrific season even with their one loss. Their streak coming to an end certainly won’t stop them from working every day to improve and they will continue to keep winning, no matter who they play. Basketball fans can look forward to the Warrior’s rematch against the Bucks on Dec. 18, as they will be more motivated than ever to show the world that they are capable of having the best season in NBA history.
