Peggy Sue’s BBQ
Peggy Sue’s has always kept a great presence in the Park Cities, whether it being a late night eat-in or you find a buffet of its brisket and sausage at a party. Peggy Sue’s was founded in 1989, following its ancestors Howard and Peggy’s and Peggy’s Beef Bar.
The restaurant’s setting is meant to appear in the 1950’s, giving customers a older yet comfortable feeling. The menu is always changing yet keeps to the values of the restaurants it deems to follow. Photo’s line the walls of past actors and actresses, some even writing of how they enjoyed the food.
For starters, I enjoy having the Texas Torpedo’s, fried, cut red peppers with cheese, made better when dipped in ranch dressing. Sliders, Onion rings and Peggy Soup are some other good foods to start you off. Customers can also head down to the salad bar, where they can set themselves up with greens and roasted bread squares.
My personal favorite is the baby back ribs, there sweet and fall of the bone. Though on Saturday’s I do enjoy the burnt ends, one of the weekend specials other than fried catfish and Millers Jalapeno Cheese Sausage. Their menu has quite a list of excellent options like the turkey, chopped brisket, ham and pulled pork.
For sides, I recommend fried okra and corn, always being to my liking ever since I was a child. Other sides are new potato salad, steamed fresh broccoli, hoppin’ John, Italian green beans, sweet vinegar cole slaw, french fries, whole kernel corn, pinto beans, mashed potatoes and others.
Leading unto to desserts you got everything good and fried. You can enjoy a classic root beer float, or even a peach cobbler. But none of those can compare to the restaurant’s famous fried pies. Customers have many flavors to choose from such as apricot, chocolate, coconut, cherry. Each pie is lightly covered in powdered sugar, adding onto it’s already sweet and scrumptious taste. You can even have a scoop of vanilla ice cream be added at request.
So come on out to Peggy Sue’s or order it for pickup, it’s good comforting food that family and friends will enjoy. When you’re hungry and want something fatty and delicious, Peggy Sue’s is the place to go with a wide selection for all.
