And the Grammy for Best Rap Album goes to…

Who is likely to win best rap album of the year at the grammies

The Grammies are coming up in just a few months, and it would be every rapper’s delight to win “best rap album” of the year. If you haven’t heard the grammy nominees yet, the contenders for “best rap album” this year are: Drake with If you’re Reading this It’s Too Late, J. Cole with 2014 Forrest Hills Drive, Nicki Minaj with The PinkPrint, Dr. Dre with Compton, and Kendrick Lamar with To Pimp A Butterfly.

Each of these albums are receiving great reviews for obvious reasons. Compton is Dre’s first album since his 1998 release of 2001 and since he scrapped Detox. Lamar’s Too Pimp A Butterfly spent two weeks at number 1, with amazing hits like “King Kunta” and “Alright.” Even Drake, who I normally don’t listen, had me singing along to “energy” and was the first album of 2015 to sell one million copies.

All the albums certainly have their strength, but when it comes down to it, I think the Grammy is going to either go got to Manaj or Cole.

Cole’s Album 2014 Forrest Hills Drive is one of my all time favorites. His album will take you back through the rapper’s life growing up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, while having you sing and rap along to nearly every song. 2014 Forrest Hills Drive was also sold three-hundred thousand copies in the first week and was the first rap album in twenty-five years to go platinum without a feature. In fact Cole even mentions going to the Grammies on this album. “This year I’ll prolly go to the awards dappered down/ Watch Iggy win a Grammy as I try to crack a smile,” but this year he doesn’t have to worry about Iggy, seeing as she wasn’t nominated for anything.

As a pretty much die-hard Nicki Minaj fan, I have to give her props for The PinkPrint. Minaj’s album has tons of great songs including “Feeling Myself Feat. Beyonce,” about having confidence in yourself and “Bed Of Lies Feat. Skyler Grey,” about her past abusive relationship. The PinkPrint also has Minaj leaving the silly gimmicks and hair of her previous albums behind, which shows the true meaning and feelings behind the album. Minaj even has me enjoying a Lil Wayne verse, a rapper who I normally can not stand. The PinkPrint hit number two on the charts, but fell just short of Cole’s three-hundred thousand copies sold in the first week.
