Turned Away: Syrian Refugees

The refugee crisis has been a hot topic for the last couple of months. The refugees are leaving Syria and entering European countries that can’t hold them. These countries are now adding new restrictions on refugees, who are entering the countries, in wake of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris. Sweden has reformed their rules for Asylum so that there aren’t as many refugees, because they can’t sustain the constant influx. Now, because of the European countries being at almost full capacity, the United States and Canada are “picking up the slack.” The newly elected Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, has pledged this year to allow 25,000 refugees across the Canadian border. Similarly, United States President, Barack Obama, has pledged to bring in 10,000 refugees. Along with this, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has proposed a new screening system for refugees so people will feel safer bringing in these displaced people.
