Dear Mrs. Adams,
Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher to have this year. Every day, I’ve looked forward to walking into your classroom as you welcome each and every one of us with a warm smile, and your simple greeting of “Hello, how are you?” to each of us goes a long way in making sure that I feel welcomed in your classroom.
I’ve loved exploring language in your class through various lenses and perspectives that help me comprehend what it means to understand literature. Furthermore, your methods have taught me how to be a successful reader and writer. Your class is mentally invigorating: instead of focusing on merely the AP Exam, we focus on using mental strategies to develop critical thinking skills and analytic thought, and I appreciate it for that. As a result, we have the opportunity to create unique, intertextual projects spanning anywhere from the movie “Dunkirk” to excellent works of literature, such as The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, that combine our understanding of the books we read in class with various other works. One of my favorite projects in your class has had nothing to do with literature. In fact, it was the music video project, analyzing Mitski’s music video for “My Love Mine All Mine.” However, by examining the symbolism in the video and how her video connected to works of literature my group had previously read, including 10th-century Heian-period Japanese literature and modern films such as “In the Mood for Love” by Wong Kar Wai, I know that we have developed the skills necessary to utilize critical thought to prepare us for both the real world and the AP Literature Exam.
It has been a real pleasure and opportunity to get to know you in-and-out of class with the National English Honor Society. Thank you for being an amazing teacher and your incredible self.
Sincerely,
Elijah Son
