Girls with Goals
The Lady Scots Soccer program is creating a new tradition for the whole community to get involved that will benefit them at the same time. Sunday, November 8th the team held a picnic at Highlander Stadium from 4-6 pm with a $10 cover charge. They had games, bounce houses, music, food and raffles for all ages.
“Since the picnic was around dinner time we had Chips Old Fashioned Hamburgers catered the food. They were serving your choice of either a hamburger or chicken strips. We also had a DJ playing music the whole time, a face painter, the button man, inflatables, soccer challenges and raffle baskets for everyone to enjoy,” sophomore Sierra Jones said.
With many different things to do came a need for a lot of people there to help run the picnic.
“All the varsity and JV players were required to go. Some worked the stations as others walked around and talked to the people. The parents were recommended to go too and help keep it running smoothly and efficiently. The weather was factor that we had to hope was in our favor. It was planned to be outside on the stadium field and our back up plan was moving it into the indoor facility. Luckily for us the weather worked out perfectly, and it was a beautiful day to be outside,” senior Savanna Jones said.
They had hoped the picnic would be successful and benefit the program in a positive way by getting more people in the neighborhood to support girls soccer and to use the money they raised for new soccer equipment and making the locker room nicer.
“It cost very little to put on the picnic because we got companies to sponsor it. A few companies we go to sponsor it was Chick-Fil-A, Favor, On the Border and Origin Bank. When everyone left they were given a cup with our logo on it. In the cup was the schedule of all our games and cards from the companies that sponsored us. There was a free fries coupon from Chick Fil A, a no delivery free coupon from Favor and free queso from On the Border,” junior Annie Flaten said.
Since this was the first year to do a soccer picnic they didn’t know what to expect. They had to get companies to sponsor it and hope for the best turn out.
“This event was more successful than we expected. There were around 700 people that came, and we are very grateful for everyone that bought a ticket and supported our program. We raised around $1,500 that goes towards the Lady Scots Soccer Program. Since this event was so successful, we plan for it to be annual event and hope it is just as successful in years to come,” junior Anna Robertson said.
The picnic was a hit, and everyone had a good time while helping the girl’s soccer program. People got what they paid for: a good meal, entertainment and a great way to show your support for the Lady Scots Soccer team. With this event being so successful, we will see many more picnics to come in the future.
