Out and About in Dallas: Reverchon Park

Reverchon Park is a large City of Dallas park located on Maple Ave. near the Dallas North Tollway. The park is also conveniently linked to the Katy Trail.

Reverchon occupies a huge space and has lots of green everywhere! The signature feature of this park is its location on Turtle Creek. The creek winds throughout the park offering spots for your dog to cool off or for taking a breather during your walk or run.  You can also follow the creek on a boardwalk trail past the Rosewood Mansion through Robert E. Lee Park to William B. Dean Park leaving you only a few blocks from Lakeside Park in Highland Park.
Woodchuck Hill is also a very prominent feature in the park as it defines it’s geography. The hill is very wooded and green, giving an impression you’re in East Texas woods and not Downtown Dallas. There are brick stairs that go up the side of the hill to lookout point and rest areas where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. Also on the hill are dirt trails leading from the Katy Trail. These can be fun to bike down or for a nice hike;remember, these are not maintained trails so be careful!

One of the most recognizable features of the park is the ballfield where the SMU Mustangs used to play back when they played baseball. The ball field is mainly used for community games at this current point in time.

What would a park be without a playground? Reverchon Park has a huge covered playground and a recreation center onsite. The playground was actually a recent addition to the park, it was built by a group of orthopedic surgeons in Dallas for a conference, in a single day in 2002.

Due to the park’s location, I personally don’t recommend visiting the park late at night. Reverchon Park is located in a neighborhood that isn’t the best in safety and has been known for crime. Specifically the park has been home to crime, and illegal trades but has gotten better in recent years. This said, it is safe while the sun is out.

Overall, Reverchon Park is one of the most beautiful areas in Dallas and rightfully deserves it’s title of the Central Park of Dallas.
