Varsity Football Game: HP Scots vs. Lake Highlands Wildcats
The Scots traveled to the Lake Highlands Wildcats “Bone Yard” on Friday, October 16th on a mission to deal the Wildcats their first district loss of the season and wreck their homecoming game. The Scots received the opening kickoff but were forced to punt on their first possession of the game. The Wildcats did the same, but an interception thrown by Highland Park quarterback Henry Allen set the Wildcats up on the Highland Park 33 yard line. A halfback pass brought the Wildcats down the two yard line from where the Wildcats scored a touchdown on their next play. After a failed extra point attempt, the Wildcats had an early 0-6 lead. The Scots, unfazed, proceeded to march 75 yards down the field in a drive that lasted a little over five and a half minutes. On 2nd and 6 from the Lake Highlands 11 yard line, senior, running back Stephen Dieb brushed off tacklers and dove across the goal line for a touchdown. 7-6, Scots. After a punt from Lake Highlands, Henry Allen lead the Scots from their own 42 yard line down to the Wildcats’ eleven where he scrambled for a touchdown on 1st and 10 to give the Scots a 14-6 lead. After a 3-and-out and a punt by Lake Highlands, the Scots moved down the field where a 4th down conversion off a pass to Chris Buell brought them into the Wildcats’ red zone. A field goal by senior, kicker Will Moore brought the score to 17-6 with a minute to go in the half.
The Scots’ defensive dominance continued through the second half, holding the Wildcats to zero points and forcing them to punt or turn the ball over on every possession. Senior, defensive back Turner Rejebian recovered a Wildcat fumble on the Lake Highlands 32 yard line, setting up another running touchdown from Dieb. Allen also scrambled for another touchdown, bringing them both to two on the night. Will Moore kicked another field goal, his second of the night. The final score was 34-6, Scots. Henry Allen ran for a total of 39 yards and went 22-31 on passes for 202 yards and threw one interception. Stephen Dieb ran for 114 yards on 19 carries, breaking the 100 yard barrier for his third time in four games. The Scots are playing their best football yet and continue to get better ever game, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Their next game is Friday the 23rd at Highland Stadium against the Mesquite Poteet. Forecasts are showing heavy rain for the evening, so come out and make some memories in the rain as the Scots continue their district undefeated season!
