The thing about hover boards…

Marty McFly

Hover boards have been an idea since the 1980’s in the film, “Back to the Future” staring infamous actor Marty McFly. Ever since then, ideas like the hover board have been produced such as the Razor Ripstik which was very popular back in 2006, and the in 2015 the Cintetree board which is a high tech mini Smart self-balancing two-wheel electric scooter. Arx Pax and Lexus are about to change the game, releasing their unique and different design of the hover board which should be buyable to the public. Their is also another hover board called the Omni Board but its still more of a concept design. The only questions many people have for these hover boards are how do they work, are these safe for kids, and how long the battery life for these boards will last for.

Recently a group of people called Arx Pax have splashed back into the idea of creating the hoverboard in “Back to the Future,” it’s currently only a prototype which consist of two very powerful magnets that repel against each other so that it pushes the board against the ground maxing at 8 inches vertically. The company is hoping to release its new board, “the Hendo 2.0” on October 21, 2015 with a whopping price of $10,000. The Arx Pax group has had many private conventions about the board with well known professional skater Tony Hawk. The company has improved the board a lot which consist of reducing the size of the board so that the battery life of the board was longer and the maneuverability is more controllable. Many people are very hyped for this event such as Aaron Nye a junior at Highland Park High School.

“I’m really excited for this board but i’m still not sure whether they will actually release the board,” Aaron Nye said.

Car company Lexus is also currently trying to produce their first hover board called the “SLIDE.” The board is different from “the Hendo 2.0” board, rather using two opposite magnetic forces to keep itself off the ground, it uses a liquid nitrogen filled cryostat inlaid with superconducting blocks to stay above the floor. The main difference between the two is that Lexus has a sleek modern touch to the board unlike Arx Pax’s board and Lexus’s board also can ride on water.

“The Lexus hover board looks so much cooler, but it looks to expensive,” Logan Slaughter said.
