Once Upon a Sequel

f you ever watched a Disney movie, you know that you’re in for a rollercoaster of emotions. With the release of Disney’s newest movie calendar, it has become clear that the studio intends to further tug at the heartstrings of a much older audience by releasing sequels to the movies that the older generation grew up watching.

Finding Dory

When Disney announced 2 years ago that they would make a sequel to the critically acclaimed Finding Nemo, the fans welcomed the idea with open arms. Dory, voiced by Ellen Degeneres, is one of the most beloved animated characters of all time. Her kind heart and happy attitude inspired a plethora of ideas for the producers of the original movie. The new movie, which focuses on her reuniting with her family, is set to release on June 17, 2016 almost 15 years after Finding Nemo.

Toy Story 4

It seems like only last year when Toy Story 3 came out that we witnessed the perfect ending to a perfect franchise. Those who grew up with the movies had strong ties with the characters, as most of them were close to the same age as Andy in the movie. The movie symbolized kids that are going to have to grow up one day, and it is better to pass the torch rather than wait for it to blow out. Alas, the perfect ending to the lovable trilogy seems to have ended with the announcement of Toy Story 4. Disney has yet to release details regarding the plot, but the film is set to release on June 15, 2018.

Incredibles 2

Writer and director Brad Bird is hard at work on the well awaited sequel to the 2004 Pixar hit The Incredibles. Since the release of Iron Man in 2008, four years after The Incredibles, Hollywood has cranked out too many superhero movies to count, and there seems to be a lack of originality. While no plot has been released, the directer will have a hard time trying to perfect a movie that seems to already be perfect. Only time will tell if The Incredibles 2 can live up to the hype, or if it will be doomed to fail. The movie is set to release of June 21, 2019.

Disenchanted

Disenchanted is the running title for the sequel to Enchanted. The original film, released in 2007, brought new light to the term “princess” with its unconventional story telling. It compared the strict rules of reality to that of fairy tales, and how it was okay to push the boundaries. The sequel has no set plot and Disney has not yet set a release date for the film. Yet that has not kept fans from freaking the freak out about this somewhat long awaited sequel.
