HP Volleyball Game: HP Lady Scots vs. Lake Highlands Lady Wildcats
The Lady Scots traveled to Lake Highlands High School on Friday, Oct. 16 to battle the Lady Wildcats, the team that had nearly beaten them the last time they met. It was homecoming week for the Wildcats and they were determined to beat the #6 team in the state their first district loss of the year. The Scots lead early in the first set, but the Wildcats rallied and took the set 25-27. The Lady Scots struck back with vengeance, taking the second set 25-14 with 6 points contributed by junior Falyn Reaugh and 3 each from Elizabeth Gilley and Greer Gordon, both seniors. Highland Park continued their dominance into the third set, steamrolling though it with a score of 25-13. 4 Lady Scots scored multiple points in the third set. Landry Ray and Falyn Reaugh each contributed 2, Jordan Westendorff added 3, and Elizabeth Gilley scored 4 times as the Lady Scots took the overall lead in the match 2-1. The Lady Wildcats sensed the desperation of their situation and fought back, matching Highland Park point for point in the 4th set in what was a very tense set. The teams tied 5 times, most notably at 23-23. The Lady Scots avoided having to play extra time by holding Lake Highlands at 23 and scoring two unanswered points. The game winning score came from senior Greer Gordon as she bumped the ball up and over the net into an uninhabited area of the Lady Wildcats’ side of the court close to the visitors’ side of the gym. Highland Park students and parents, who nearly outnumbered Lake Highlands’ fans, cheered and threw their arms up in celebration as the Lady Scots took the set 25-23 and the match 3-1, saving their perfect district record.
