Falling for Dallas

For the average Dallas resident fall means three things: pumpkins, Big Tex and football. But what are the best activities in Dallas to do when fall hits? Of course there are the big ones like The State Fair of Texas and college football, but there are many other fall favorites for families in Dallas.
When fall hits in Dallas thousands of people flock to the state fair. From Fletcher’s corn dogs to Big Tex to the ferris wheel, the fair has classics that everyone will love.
“I love going to the state fair every year. The classic rides and games that I remember doing when I was a little kid are my favorite part. This year I went to the fair on Highland Park’s fair day which was really fun. It was super crowded and hot, but it was still fun any way,” senior Claire Green said.
Another fall favorite for many families in Dallas is the fall festival at the Arboretum. Running September 22 through November 26 the fall festival at the arboretum provides a beautiful place to be able to snap those cute pumpkin pictures in your fall best. The fall festival is made up of about 75,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash arranged into a pumpkin village, a pumpkin mosaic of Texas, and a Pumpkin patch where visitors can purchase pumpkins to take home to their houses. Along with the 150,000 fall blooming flowers that cover the grounds of the arboretum, the fall festival provides a beautiful sight that you don’t want to miss. Admission to the arboretum is free for members and $15 for non- member general admission, and it is $15 for parking.
For those looking for a laid back activity to do on a fall night, the Galaxy Drive- In in Ennis is the way to go. Providing a nostalgic setting that is sure to take you back in time, the galaxy drive-in is a favorite that has withstood the test of time. Admission to the theater is only $6 for an adult and the food is extremely cheap, making it an economical option for those wanting to save some money but still enjoy those beautiful fall nights.
“I love the drive-in because it’s not like a regular movie theater where you have to worry about being too loud or your phone going off. It’s fun just being able to hang out with your friends and not have to worry about other people,” senior Catherine Champlin said.
Whether you enjoy laid back fall activities or high caliber thrills, Dallas is sure to offer it this fall with its wide variety of activities.
