Are you ready for Homecoming?
During the first few weeks of school, moms and boys spend an unlimited amount of time preparing for a night to remember. Homecoming! Homecoming is one of the most exciting events that happen during the fall semester. It takes the boys so much time to prepare, but it also absorbs a lot of the girl’s time too.
First, the pressure is on for the boy when he is deciding whom to ask. He picks a girl and “unofficially” asks her, and that’s where the planning begins. The boy’s mom then has to start to coordinate with other moms several things. First a homecoming group, it is fun to go to homecoming but even better if you go with a fun group of your close girlfriends and guy friends so then you can all enjoy together! The moms get together and coordinate a group. Then, they will make plans for transportation. Usually a bus, party bus, or limo will be the group’s driver for the night. There are several locations the driver has to take students in the group.
For the girls most of the preparations are day of. Of course we have to get the dresses, and the shoes, but the real prep comes at the time of the first nail appointment. Most girls spend the whole day in and out of different salons. First come the nail appointments. Girls often book appointments with their friends. Then comes hair and makeup. Salons get booked out weeks in advance.
Freshman Quincy Hammer said, “To get ready I am getting my nails done, my hair and makeup done. I already have my dress and shoes so I should be good to go.”
Boys first pick up their dates and take them to get pictures, then they are off to a restaurant of their choice for dinner. At dinner, usually girls sit by their date and talk with their friends. After that, they finally head to the dance. The dance itself takes place in the gym. There is loud music and lots of sweaty people but worth every bit. Finally, once the dance is over, the group heads to there after party. The after party is the best part of the night because you get to be with your friends, relax, get comfy and talk about the entire night. Parents put so much effort into trying to make this night special and memorable for the girls and boys.
