Highlander Strings Go Disney

The Highlander Strings Orchestra becomes part of a Disney film soundtrack this spring. Their 2016 spring trip will give the musicians an opportunity to have a unique performance and clinic experience by participating at Disney Performing Arts Workshop in Florida.
In addition, the social component of the trip gives the students a one of a kind bonding experience. A student may have gone to Disney World with his/her family, but the experience is completely different when traveling with a school group. In January (2016) the orchestra students will spend five days and four nights in Florida and stay at a Disney Resort property. They will get to use park passes in Disney World Parks including Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios.
“I am excited to see Disney World for the first time and it’s going to be extra great because I’m going to be with some of my best friends,” freshman Catherine Geilich said.
The students will be taught by a Disney studio music conductor. This conductor will be teaching the students music that they have not seen; a film score that will become the soundtrack of a movie. Students develop character, camaraderie and confidence while fine‐tuning their performance skills in the workshop. The Disney Performing Arts Workshop will take place at Epcot Center and includes studio recording time. At the end of the workshop, the orchestra students will see and hear the final product they created.
“It’s pretty cool because now we can actually be part of a movie. And I am so excited to work with the Disney conductor,” freshman Ava Miranda said.
This learning program uses the impact of Disney storytelling, the dynamic cast and environment of the Disney Parks, and the power of hands‐on learning to spark creativity and unlock potential.
Only professional musicians get this kind of opportunity. And a very few of them at that. For those lucky few, Disney has been a launch pad to greatness. Students experience the excitement of Disney’s world-famous attractions and discover first hand why this is the place where dreams really do come true.
