Chappaquiddick capitivates

A movie review of the film Chappaquiddick

Chappaquiddick capitivates

This past weekend I was very indecisive in what film I was wanting to spend my evening watching, but eventually decided to see Chappaquiddick. Walking into the theater with no real no knowledge of the Ted Kennedy Chappaquiddick scandal I left feeling satisfied, yet angry at the past all at the same time.

The basic premise of the film follows the historical timeline of the actual events that occured in the Massachusett island of Chappaquiddick in July 1969. Where Ted Kennedy crashes into a lake with his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker for him, and flees the scene of the accident. The events that follow after this tragedy delve into how Kopechne came to parish, and the strategic moves made by Kennedy’s campaign to evert their candidates unavoidable political demise.

After seeing this movie I wish a film about this topic had been made sooner, and I believe this historical movie should be thought of more. With a political atmosphere where no one in politics ever seems to be held accountable for their actions I think movie can help in drawing people’s attention to the fact that the politicians of this country are never held accountable for their actions. Other then this movie’s general importance I found many aspects in this film that just made it more enjoyable to watch. One of this quality aspects was just the story telling on its own in this film. What I mean by this is that the way all the events in this film played out felt so true and reel as they folded out on the screen. Another thing I appreciated in this film is how they portrayed the characters personalities, and how you felt a sense of genuineness as if they were the actual people experiencing these events in real time.

As for things I found annoying with the film this was very hard for me to decide. Once thought really hard about it, but my only negative feeling were directed at the historical events of the film itself, and how everything went down after Ted Kennedy left a girl to die in his submerged car. Other then that this film was well put together.

I believe this movie is necessary for everyone to see not only because the film is good, but just to know the history of what happened. I honestly would see this film again and I would recommend everyone else to see it.
