Is the iPhone 8 worth it?

On Sep. 22 the iPhone 8 came out for everyone that didn’t pre-order it, a week after the pre-order release on Sep. 15. The two most recent phones, the 7 and 8, have many similarities. Both of them have a 4.7 inch displays (or in the case of the plus a 5.5 inch display), touch ID, 12 megapixel cameras and both are resistant to water and dust.

The first difference is that the iPhone 7 has five different colors to pick from- jet black, black, silver, gold and rose gold- while the iPhone 8 only has three colors to pick from; silver, space gray and gold. The second difference is that the iPhone 7 has an A10 fusion chip that Apple states that it has 40% greater CPU performance and 50% greater graphics performance compared to its predecessor, the A9. It has a storage capacity of either 32GB or 128GB. The iPhone 8 has an A11 bionic chip that is the first internally designed graphics processing unit it renders images animations and videos, and it states to be 30% faster than the A10. It also has a capacity of either 64GB or 256GB. The iPhone 7 is 4.87 ounces, while the iPhone 8 is a little bit heavier at 5.22 ounces, a .35 ounce difference.

The iPhone 8 has Quad-LED True Tone flash with Slow Sync and 4K video recording at 24, 30 or 60 frames per second. The iPhone 7 just has Quad-LED True Tone flash, and 4K video recording at 30 frames per second. The iPhone 8 supports slo-mo videos for 1080p HD at 240 frames per second while the iPhone 7 only supports slo-mo videos for 720p HD at the same frames. The iPhone 8 has a few things that the iPhone 7 lacks, like wireless charging that works with Qi chargers, True Tone display and up to 50% charge in 30 minutes.

Another new iPhone is coming out on Nov. 3: the iPhone X.The iPhone 8 costs 699 dollars, without a plan, and the iPhone X is 999 dollars, also without a plan. That is a 300 dollar difference between the two phones. While the iPhone 7 may have more colors to pick from and is cheaper than the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 has wireless charging, has twice as much storage capacity and takes higher quality photos than the iPhone 7.
