A Giant Change

With the New York Giants seeming lifeless in their 30-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, December 10, it paints a picture of how the Giants’ season has gone. The 2-10 record speaks for itself. Even with Eli Manning returning to the starting lineup, the Giants could not squeak out a win. Major changes are in store for the Giants in the offseason and it will be interesting to see who comes in to fix this disentangled franchise.

Although the Giants fired their head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese, no new life was seen in the Giants Sunday. They will most likely wait until the offseason to hire a new head coach, but the search for a new general manager is underway. Currently, Ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman is a favorite option.

There is already a strong sense around the league than any other hire would be an upset,” CBS Sports writer Jason La Canfora.

The Giants will most likely get a high draft pick in next year’s draft, with most expecting they will take a quarterback. They will need a general manager to coordinate draft picks next year to get this franchise back on track.

Even though the coaching aspect as a team is important, the people on the team are just as important. Injuries have plagued the giants this year, as star players Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, and many offensive and defensive team players have succumb to the injury bug. It has been a tough year in that respect, so you can not blame the Giants’ bad play for that.

However, there are many areas where the Giants could improve greatly, specifically on their offensive line. The Giants O-Line has been dreadful, allowing 22 sacks in 12 regular season games – one of the worst in the league. Improvement is needed there, whether through free agency or draft picks, the Giants need to do something about that. If they draft a young quarterback in the draft next year, they will need a solid offensive line to protect and help.

The talent is there for the Giants on the defensive side of the ball. It has come down to coaching this year, as the defense seems tired and unmotivated. In 2016, the Giants’ defense was one of the best-ranked defenses. The players are there, but it comes down to the right play-calling and coaching.

From being a 2017 Super Bowl Contender, to one of the worst teams in the league, the Giants need some help. However, there is hope. With the right hirings and leadership, this franchise could be back on track in no time.
