A Win for Houston

Astros manage to claim a 4-3 win over LA Dodgers

The 2017 World Series was spectacular in many ways— for one, the series went into seven games after the Dodgers tied it up, three games to three games. However, after seven nail-biter games, the Astros pulled out a World Series win, proudly sporting “Houston Strong” on their jerseys in support of Hurricane Harvey recovery.

The Willie Mays World Series Most Valuable Player was George Springer, Astros outfielder. Springer totaled 34 home runs this season, with five of them during the World Series.

“This is a dream come true and an honor,” Springer said. “But it’s about the Houston Astros tonight, our city, our fans. That patch on our chests really does mean something.”

Springer tied the record for most home runs in a World Series by an individual player, and he had eight extra base hits, the most ever in a World Series, ESPN (who had the chance to interview him) reports.

“You can’t worry about the result of each at-bat,” Springer said. “You just have to stay in the moment.”

Game one was played at Dodger stadium in Los Angeles Tuesday, October 24, which resulted in a 3-1 win for the Dodgers with Highland Park alumni Clayton Kershaw starting on the mound. Kershaw talked to a MLB interviewer about one of his notorious pitches after winning game one.

“I threw it when I was a sophomore and junior in high school,” Kershaw said. “It’s not foreign to me. I used to do that.”

Game two ended in an Astros win, seven runs to six, on Wednesday, October 25 at Dodger stadium. Both teams then traveled to Houston to play games 3-5. Game three ended in an Astros win 5-3, game four was won by the Dodgers 6-2, and game five was an Astros win 13-12.

Game six, played on Tuesday, October 31, was a make-or-break game for the Dodgers. If they lost, the Astros would become winners of the World Series automatically without even going to a seventh game. However, the Dodgers managed to pull a 3-1 win over the Astros, coming back from a 1-0 Astros lead by scoring twice in the sixth inning and once in the seventh.

Game seven was played on Wednesday, November 1 in Los Angeles at Dodger stadium. The Houston Astros won the game 5-1 and in return the World Series, their first ever World Series championship title.
